About Me

My name is Kaitlyn Shamery, and dogs are my passion. I am a graduate of Bergin University of Canine Studies, the only accredited university in the world to offer degrees in Cynology (the study of dogs). I graduated with an Associate of Science degree in Assistance Dog Education.
While there, I had a service-dog-in-training with me at all times, so I was able to take part in the training process but also experience first-hand what life with a service dog is like. I helped to train dogs for those with mobility impairments and for veterans with PTSD; I also took courses on many other types of service dog training.

I was quick to discover that many people know little to nothing about service dogs. Everywhere I went, there was someone (and usually more than one someone) whose lack of service dog knowledge presented a problem for me, whether it was by distracting my dog, asking me illegal questions, or charging me extra fees.
After moving back to West Michigan, I spent a year working at an animal shelter, and then three years as the Senior Dog Trainer at the Holland Petco. I am now spending my time being a catalyst in changing this lack of knowledge, equipping businesses to become familiar with relevant legislation regarding assistance animals. Additionally, I offer private dog training to help make life with furry friends a more enjoyable experience.

When owners of pet dogs are educated on how to best work their dogs through behavioral challenges, everyone wins.
When everyone is educated about assistance animals, the world is a significantly better place for the service dogs, their handlers, and the businesses that accommodate them.
